Can Mavin’s Record New Artiste; Rema Ever Be As Big As Wizkid In The Music Industry?

Since the announcement of the signing of teenage afrobeats artiste, Rema, to Mavin Records and the release of his 4-track E.P, there has been suggestions by a lot of people that he is the future of Nigerian music.
Since his intorduction to the music scene, in a very short space, he’s already created his own fan base with his song; “Dumebi” doing fairly well and piercing through the hearts of young music fans.
However of all the stories surrounding Rema, the most significant and widely spread is the fact that people say he sounds like wizkid. Although he has so far downplayed the thoughts as he said it is Wizkid who sounds like him instead.
Many people have received Rema’s claims of Wizkid sounding like him as an arrogant claim and therefore that he wouldn’t be a successful artiste, while others believe there is nothing weird in his claims as he is only confident of his talent. They even said, he will be successful and infact he would be as big as Wizkid.
Therefore, the last sentence now creates the question, will Rema ever be as big as Wizkid???

Davido has given us an hint to the tittle of his coming sophomore album, that’s scheduled to drop in the coming months.

The Fall singer, made this known via his instagram page after he drops a comment of one of his fan and he wrote;
“Toast To The Biggest Afrobeat Album About To Hit The World Soon” with Davido hanging on to the page to make a comment that seems like the title of the album. He wrote; “The “7” Album"
The album is almost done and we are about to witness the heaviest international act involved album out of Nigerian music Industry.

Whether you're an artiste or just a fan, we all download songs so as to keep ourselves entertained. But whilst some people download songs randomly, others download songs because they know the artiste or simply because they are his/her fans. Or maybe someone recommended the artiste to them. Yet, others download songs based on the song's graphic art cover, and others based on how you publicise the song.
But I, King Sniffy of BESTXPLORER don't download songs because of the above stated reasons. What lure me into downloading songs is the 'Song Title'. It doesn't matter whether I know you or not, once your song has a good title and it's captivating, I would instantly download it.
For instance, I woke up this morning and saw a song titled #LetterToGod by Dninety. Instantly, I was captivated by the song and I am looking forward to being the first person to download it when it is released. Also, #KingsSpeech by Slim Nazi has a very captivating title and because of that, I'm quite eager to download it (probably because I'm also a King. Lol).
Moreso, songs like #LetterToMI_Abaga by D'Paramount, #StoryForTheGods by Olamide, #If_I_Get_Money_Ehn by Magnito, #If_I_Die by Dagrin, #BeefClassiq by Hashim Zamaneh, #LetterToMyUnbornChild by 2Pac and Banky W (respectively), #LetNasDown by J.cole and #2Face by Teedon15 all have catchy titles that would make fans instantly fall in love with them. I still remember clearly how it took me over a month before I could come up with only the title of my song, #SarkinKaduna .'s funny right? But that's the truth. Normally when composing a song, I always come up with the title first before the chorus/hook, then the verses. But in the case of my song 'Sarkin Kaduna', I composed the whole song without a title. It was even after recording the song that I fixed the title, because I wanted a very catchy title that would make people download the song at a glance. And my target was accomplished as many people downloaded the song, which was one of the reasons why B.O.C got interested in working on the remix.
Furthermore, have you ever wondered why Davido always uses precision in his songs' titles? His songs' titles are very brief and sexy. For example, #Aye , #Gobe , #IF and #FALL just to mention a few. He always make them Short, Simple and Sexy (SSS) because he knows how to draw fans.
I'm a journalist, and in journalism we believe that the title or headline of a news story is the basic factor that determines whether people would read the news or not. So just like a news story, I believe that the most important thing in getting people to like and download your song is the title/headline, because that's the first thing they see about the song. So it creates the first impression in them. And remember, first impression matters a lot and it lasts forever.
In the light of this, I call on my fellow artistes to always be creative when creating a title for their songs. Don't just fix it randomly, but make it catchy and attractive. Because your song's title is your own mantle.

The DMW boss has seen his fan base and followers increase greatly across social media since his political activism in 2018 and also as a result of breaking into the American market, thanks to his 2017 hit single; “Fall.”

I Don’t Sound Like Wizkid ,He Sounds Like Me Instead — Rema Finally Speaks

New Mavin act, Rema has given a voice to the argument that he, Reekado Banks, Skiibii and Wizkid sound alike.
It is no news that the new Mavin signee, Rema has been the buzz of late. The singer who was signed to Mavin Records two weeks ago kicked off his career with the hit track “Dumebi“. However, many believe that the singer sounds like Wizkid, Skiibii and Reekado Banks as the track “Dumebi’ definitely gives a Wizkid, Skiibii and Reekado Banks kind of vibe.
In a recent interview, he came forward to brush off the notion saying he sounds like them. He says that he doesn’t sound like anyone and that they may sound like him.
In his words “I don’t sound like anyone actually, they might sound like me but I don’t sound like anyone.”
Does Rema really sound like Wizkid, Skiibii and Reekado banks? Let us know what you think.

It was the surprise of the night. No one at The O2 at that night anticipated it. We all didn’t see it coming either.

In case you haven’t see the Video, Watch it below...

Unlike some artistes who would have ranted “HEY YO, I’M PULLIN UP AT THE O2 WITH MY BROTHER DRAKE“, Starboy who for sure would have been notified days before the show yesterday, kept mum and gave us no hint he would be at The O2 yesterday.

Then, in his revelling glory, Wizkid appeared and the whole crowd went into a frenzy mode. The surprise matched with the excitement and you could tell with the way the whole fans were lip syncing to “Come Closer”and “Soco“.
Yet, what does this teach us?

For sure, he might not show it enough (everyone is all about their own career), but Drake has been a big fan of Wizkid since the whole relationship all started with the Ojuelegba remix in 2015.
While after that, they did “One Dance” and “Come Closer“, Drake has also continued to show love to Wizkid by posting the artwork of Soco on his story last year and yesterday when he acted as hype man for WizKid, it showed 6 God is a big fan of Starboy. He even shouted Starboy!

Not to discredit members of the 30BG, Wizkid‘s achievement is there for all to see. Ever since the Ojuelegba remix happened in 2015, he’s been on a roller coaster of achievements most Nigerian artistes have failed to match so far.
Probably your greatest act has to get on Billboard Hot 100 for several weeks(One dance did that) or become the most featured African act or countless acts Wizkid has pulled this space won’t be able to contain.

This is an important lesson for upcoming artists. Performing to a crowd of mostly Americans and Canadians who came to see arguably the biggest artiste in the World means a lot to Wizkid.
Many who haven’t heard “Come Closer” or “Soco” will go home looking to download or stream either of these songs. Increase in streams for the Starboy πŸ˜‰

“Who’s this Starboy Drake is hyping up and down”. Trust me, Google Search results will be up for Wizkid as many will be willing to know more about him, follow him on Instagram and Twitter and also look to Stream/Download more music.
They will join the conversation of the most stubborn fan base in Africa, Wizkid FC and will pull up to any of his shows too. That’s growth!

Wizkid’s strides has always been quiet, silent and devoid of those noise.. Not like the other guys shouting “ME AND JCOLE GAT ONE COMING” up and down πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
It’s an important lesson to everyone, upcoming artistes, entrepreneurs and everyone still coming up, don’t shout about the process or your ongoing work, let the results make the noise for you.
If Wizkid had given us an hint he was going to be at the O2 yesterday, it would have reduced the euphoria we had when he later surprised us with that performance.
Prepare your “food” in silence, when it’s done, the aroma will attract everyone.
That’s why Wizkid’s performance holds so much value because it was unexpected.
